Ingredients

  • 16 strips (2.7oz./75g) shokupan crusts (approximately 0.41-0.61 inches (1-1.5cm) thick, which is the size for sandwiches. If using thicker strips, adjust the quantity accordingly.)
  • 1 tsp water
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 0.53 oz. (15g) salted butter

Instructions

  • Cut the shokupan crusts in half or into bite-sized pieces. (Optional) If you prefer to enjoy them with a rusk-like, crunchy texture, place them on a microwave-safe plate and microwave at 500 watts for 3 minutes.
  • Mix water and sugar in a pot, heating it over medium heat to dissolve the sugar. Once the sugar has dissolved in the water, add the butter and continue heating until it melts. Then, add the shokupan crusts and cook them on both sides until browned, allowing the flavors to blend.

Notes

  • You can store it in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Refrigerating is not recommended, as it can compromise the flavor.
